Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
