One 60-day journey around the Land Down Under is being halted following the fatal incident of an older woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the party for a pause. The ship departed without her and came back later that day after the ship staff discovered the lady was missing.

A major rescue mission located her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that travelers and personnel on the ship were told that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also issued an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Master" preventing any additional guests from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the liner in the Australian city upon its arrival.

The vessel first departed the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the time of the elderly woman's demise. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Relatives Reaction

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an scheduled outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking club.

"From the little facts we have been informed, it appears that there was a lapse of attention and common sense," she stated.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the company should have performed that might have protected Mother's being".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mum became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"They requested her to head down, alone. Then the ship sailed away, reportedly without performing a passenger count.

"At some stage in that process, or not long after, mother succumbed, alone."

Company Response

Via official communication, the Chief Executive confirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to aid their inquiry".

He stated that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the family.

Maritime Business Practices

The liner caters for up to one hundred twenty guests with 46 personnel, according to corporate data. It was purpose-built to access remote areas of the Australian shoreline and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to transport travelers on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are infrequent, and cruise ships have systems to record which travelers are boarding or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] aboard simply isn't an option," one expert commented.

Vessel operators take these methods with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to stop such incidents from occurring," the specialist further stated.
